Romaldo Granillo, a Jerome, Ariz., native and 69-year resident of Prescott, passed peacefully into the arms of Our Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013.
Romaldo moved his five younger siblings to Prescott in 1944, following the tragic death of his father, Romaldo R. Granillo, in a Jerome mining explosion. The orphans lost their mother in 1938 from illness.
In Prescott, Romaldo established himself and his brother and sisters into their first home on Madison Avenue. In 1947, he married Tomasita Larriba, a Prescott native. Together they brought their three children, Conrad, Olivia and Victoria, into the world.
Romaldo began a career in interior design and sales as early as 1948. He first worked for Marlers' Furniture and later Barrows Furniture. For several years in the 1960s, Romaldo owned his own furniture store, The House of Décor. He later returned to Barrows and continued to have a flourishing career, serving countless clients throughout the state. He retired from Barrows at the age of 72.
Romaldo's greatest love was for his wife, Tommie, and they could be seen dining and dancing at the Pine Cone Inn on any given Friday or Saturday night. They were often accompanied by their children, numerous good friends, and on occasion even some of their grandchildren. Romaldo relished these times with Tommie. He greatly mourned her passing in November of 2006.
Romaldo considered himself an artist. His love of art and painting occupied much of his free time for many years. He also loved stimulating conversation, dancing, trips with family and friends, his wife's amazing cooking, and telling epic stories of his life in Jerome and his early days in Prescott. He was a "giver," generous to a fault. His love of life was a gift to his family and all who knew him. Romaldo will live on in those of us who continue love him deeply.
Romaldo Amado Granillo is survived by his three children, Conrad Granillo, Olivia Jimenez and Victoria Hicks; seven grandchildren, Debbie Granillo-Shafer, Lisa Goodman, Mia Jonas, Granillo Jimenez, Dylan Granillo, Melinda Hicks and Nathan Hicks; his siblings Richard Granillo, Helen Espitia, Olga Urias, Josie Nodal and Carmen Smith; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Rosary is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury Ave., Prescott, Ariz. Memorial Mass is at 11 a.m. Sept. 25, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
