Weekly Journal - Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory February 10, 1897, page 3 George Burton died this morning about four o'clcok. Deceased had been sick for over a year, but able to be around until recently. His disease was quick consumption. Three days ago he spoke very cheerfully of his condition, saying that he would be able to be out again in two or three days. It was only a few hours afterwords that he lapsed into semi-unconsciousness, in which condition he remained until his death. He had been a resident of Prescott for a great many years and was a quiet peaceable and respected citizen. He filled the office of chief of police and was also night watchman in both of which he gave good satisfaction. He was on of the oldest members of the Prescott fire department, being a member of the Toughs hose company and his funeral will be held under the auspice of this company. Deceased was forty three years old. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late residence on South Cortez street. Note: Burial is at the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona. No headstone has been found marking his exact gravesite.
