Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, September 29, 2013 - Sophia Valsamedis, 88, of Lake Havasu City stepped into the presence of her Lord on September 21, 2013. She was born on April 23, 1925, in Jersey City, N.J. She was the daughter of Greek immigrants. Sophia is survived by a brother John (Dorothy) Pismopulos of Stone Ridge, N.Y.; two sons James and Peter Valsamedis both of Carlsbad, Calif., and a daughter Andrea Valsamedis of Lake Havasu City. Sophia was a 37 year resident of Lake Havasu and always said, “Oh, how I love my desert.” Besides being a wonderful mother, she was a wonderful friend. She was a “blessing” to so many people. People were drawn to her smile — that was her first attraction, then came the hugs. She took it upon herself to be a designated greeter at functions. One of her joys was attending the WOW bible study for over 20 years. She will be missed. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Baptist on Saturday October 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastors Chad Garrison and Chris Blythe officiating.
