Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, September 22, 2013 - J. Allan Lefurgey Sr. passed away Sept. 15, 2013 in Lake Havasu City, at the age of 91. He was born to John Ross and Mary (Libby) Lefurgey Aug. 3, 1922, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Allan attended Rosemount and Commercial high schools and graduated from Fortin Business College in 1938. He was employed by a retail furniture store when World War II was declared in 1939. Difficulty with age created a problem; however he succeeded in enlisting March 4, 1940, at the age of 17 and proceeded to England the same year. He left England in July 1943 for Sicily, Italy; later France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He returned to England in May and Canada in August 1945. He was honorably discharged in September 1945, however, he re-enlisted for an additional eight years. Allan met Annie in 1947, and they married in 1952. They moved to the USA in January 1956, residing in Arcadia where the two children were born, then to San Gabriel, Calif., where he obtained his U.S. citizenship in 1964, and retirement in 1982 from GM. The move to Lake Havasu City in 1982 was a delight until Annie’s passing in 2000. Annie’s remains were delivered to the veteran’s cemetery in Montreal where Allan’s remains will accompany Annie’s. Allan was also a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Allan was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and two sisters. He currently is survived by his son, John Allan (Donna) Lefurgey Jr.; his grandson, Dillon; step grandson, Ryan Alba; and a daughter, Faye Ann Lefurgey.
