SKINNER, Charles (Don)


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Sunday, September 29, 2013 Charles "Don" Skinner, 90, passed away on Sept. 21, 2013, in Prescott, Ariz. He was born on Nov. 19, 1922, in Winnipeg, Canada. He grew up in Loma Linda, Calif., attended Oregon State University and joined the Navy in 1943, receiving an honorable discharge in 1945 as E-4 Navy. He was a very talented athlete. He played all sports, but was particularly talented in baseball. He was offered contracts from major league teams, but back then minor league contracts didn't pay much. He was very successful in fast pitch softball. He went to the ASA world series several times and was inducted to the Oregon and Washington Halls of Fame. Don was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, a member of VFW, president of the Antelope Hills men's golf club, and attended Prescott Community Church. Don married Dorothy Blatt on June 1, 2004. He is survived by his wife; six children; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was a kind and considerate man, respected by all. He always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye, a great sense of humor and an ear to listen. He will surely be missed. Services for Don will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Prescott Community Church, 3151 Willow Creek Road in Prescott, Ariz.
