The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, Arizona Wednesday, March 28, 2007 Bessie Lorene Portrey, 76, of Cottonwood, died March 24, 2007. Bessie was born April 21, 1930, in Lawrence County, Missouri, to Phoebe and William Cantrell. She moved with her family to Miami, Okla., when she was about 5 years old, where she lived until she met and married Robert Portrey on May 21, 1947. Bessie is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Portrey. She leaves behind her five sons, Robert J. Portrey of Rimrock, Ariz., David Portrey, Daniel Portrey, and Timothy Portrey, all of Cottonwood, Ariz. and William Portrey of Cornville, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held in Bessie's honor March 29, 2 p.m., at Westcott Funeral Home in Cottonwood, Ariz. An online guestbook is available at www.westcottfuneralhome.com.
