SMITH, Carol Odessa


Kingman Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ - Published on September 5, 2013 - Carol Odessa Smith, born July 21, 1947, in Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, in her Kingman home at the young age of 66. Carol moved from California to Kingman in 2003 after she retired from LA County Social Services as chief deputy director where she dedicated 28 years. After her retirement and move, Carol dedicated her time - first to the Moose Lodge, where she held different officer positions, such as senior regent. Carol was also the first lady Elk in Kingman, where she last held the office of secretary. She was also a Red Hat Lady (Ruby Reds of Kingman). Besides her children being the most important in her life, the biggest part of her life was volunteering throughout the Kingman community, such as supporting cancer research (Relay for Life) and volunteering her time at Kingman Regional Medical Center. Carol is survived by her doggies (shih tzus) Coco and Carmel; her sons, John "Jack" (Peggy) and Daniel; daughter, Danean (Don); surviving grandchildren, Tanya, Alex, Corey and Patricia; and Amari, her great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her sister, Jeannie; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and many close friends. The ladies of the Moose, Elks and Red Hat Society will have a ceremony of honor dedicated to Carol followed by a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Kingman Elks Lodge, 900 Gates Ave. Donations to cancer charities of your choice will be greatly appreciated.
