Lillian (Walls) Martin, 93
With great sadness, we announce the passing of our mother, Lillian (Walls) Martin. Lillian passed away at the age of 93 on Sept. 24, 2013, surrounded by her family.
Lillian was born on Dec. 31, 1919 in Oklahoma. As a child, she was part of a large family that respected honesty and responsibility and she instilled those same values in her own four children.
In 1942, she and her husband, Andrew, moved to Miami, where they built their home and raised their children. Lillian worked at several jobs over the years, including a small diner in Miami that she owned with her sister. The Little Diner was a local favorite in the late 50’s and early 60’s. The same building is currently occupied by Dick’s Broasted Chicken.
Lillian was a beloved wife and partner, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a loyal friend and a gracious host. One of her greatest joys was spending time with family and friends. To know her was to love her.
Lillian was preceded in death by her first husband Andrew Myers, father of their four children; and second husband, Doyle Martin.
Lillian is survived by her partner, Norman Lemmon; one son, Wesley (Mona) of Concho, Ariz.; three daughters, JoAnn Mathews, Nancy (Daryl) Phegley and Betty Smith, all of Phoenix; and seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Many thanks to both the staff at Copper Mountain Inn and The Crossing: Hospice Care for their committed care of our mother.
