BOBIS, Katherine (Kay) Aggelios

Silver Creek Mortuary, Taylor, Arizona Katherine Aggelios Bobis (July 30, 1914 - September 26, 2013) Kay Bobis passed away peacefully at the Carriage House Assisted Living Home in Snowflake, Arizona on September 26, 2013 . She was born in Alabama to James and Helen Shakelaris; eventually settling in Chicago with her parents and siblings. In June of 1941 she married George M. Bobis and bore two children, Michael born in 1942 and Nancy in 1944. After her husband’s death in 1952, she was employed at Dun and Bradstreet and Union Tank Car Company (UTLX). Between 1970 and 1982, she lived in California, Illinois, and Pennsylvania; moving to Arizona in 1992. Her sister, Sophie Caras lived with her after her husband Mike’s death in 1950 until she died in 2008. Another sister Annette Patargias lived on and off with Kay and Sophie until her death in 2003. They were known affectionately to the family as “the Golden Girls.” Kay is survived by her son Michael G. Bobis (Harolynne), daughter Nancy Scannell (James), grandsons Michael and George Scannell and Michael J. Bobis. Her nieces include Viola Porter, Elaine Millspaugh (Chuck), Darlene and Charlene Weege, Renee Kostenko (Sergei), Patricia Rohm (Tom), Helen Christ (Myron Baldwin) and Alexis Laris. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, her sisters Janey Charles, Virginia Christ, Annette Patargias, Sophie Caras, Georgia Weege, and her brother Peter Laris. Her brothers-in-law Anthony Charles, Peter Christ, Charles Patargias, Mike Caras, and Chuck Weege also died before Kay. Her sister-in-law, Sandra Laris, nephews James Taris, Reinhold Weege, Chuck Weege, Jr. and nieces Helen Dubek and Anna Klimasara also preceded Kay in death. Internment services to be held at a later, to be determined, date.
