Arlene Joy Koshollek, 85, passed away on Oct. 7, 2013 in Prescott, Ariz. She was born Arlene Joy Willman on Nov. 16, 1927 in Prairie du Sac, Wis. She was the youngest of three children including Leona and Maynard.
In her early 20s, Arlene moved to Milwaukee, Wis. where she married George P. Koshollek in 1952, raised three children, Marietta, David and Brian and had two grandchildren, Kevin and Cheri.
After her children were grown, Arlene returned to work and was part owner of two successful Milwaukee area restaurants; The No Name Cafe and the Irish Baker. The latter earned national acclaim for its signature dish, an enormous Idaho baked potato smothered in your choice of several delectable toppings.
In her spare time, Arlene avidly followed professional and college baseball, football and basketball and enjoyed sharing her observations with her grandson, Kevin, who often called from California to "watch" a game together. Her favorite teams were the Packers, Cardinals, Brewers, Diamondbacks, Cubs and Suns. When her son David needed a sports update Arlene always had the statistics immediately at hand.
Arlene moved to Arizona in the late '80s and enjoyed the hot weather more than most. She often commented that she would, "Never shovel snow again." That was not to be as she moved to Prescott, Ariz. in 2003 to be closer to her son David and his wife, Theresa. She loved Prescott with one exception, you guessed it, the cold, snowy winters.
Arlene is dearly loved and will be missed for her spunky character and tough, no nonsense approach to life. She avoided routine medical attention and still managed to live a fruitful 85-years without an overnight stay in the hospital until the very end. Her favorite saying was, "C'mon!" which was often stated when someone made what she believed to be a comment lacking in common sense or reality.
Arlene is certainly now in heaven, enjoying the company of her mother and father, brother and sister, son Brian and ex-husband George. All who knew Arlene, even the CVICU staff at Yavapai Regional Hospital will miss her. She had that effect on people.
Per Arlene's wish, she was cremated and her ashes will be spread somewhere off the top of a southwest mountain. There will be two memorials. The first from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 17, 2013 at Alioto's Restaurant, 3041 North Mayfair Road, Wauwatosa, Wis. and the second at 11 a.m. Nov. 16, 2013 at the Prescott Resort, 1500 State Route 69, Prescott, Ariz.
