HANNIG, Victor William (Vic)


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona, May 22, 2011 Hannig, Victor William 91, of Gilbert, Arizona passed away on April 2, 2011. He was born in New Baden, Illinois on July 27, 1919 to Victor and Ann Hannig. Vic served during World War II with the 9th Air Force, 99th Troop Carrier Squadron in the Europe an Theater of Operation from D-Day until August 10, 1945. He served in all campaigns earning the EAME service ribbon,Good Conduct Medal, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and Distinguished Unit Badge. He lived in Staunton and Chicago, Illinois and Grand Rapi ds, Michigan before moving to Arizona in the mid-1990's. Vic was also a life long Cubs fan. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, brother, Norman (Lee), his children, Victor (Nancy), Kevin (Beth), and Cheryl Koerner (Jim), grandchildren Holly Olsen (Jason), Casey Hannig, Kyle and Seth Koerner, great grandson, Kaden Olsen and two nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and three grandchildren. Vic was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed by them. A celebration of his life will be held at 1pm on May 29th at the Sunland Village East Mesa Verde Building, 2615 S. Farnsworth Dr. Mesa, Arizona.
