LAZARIN, JR.,
Elias C.
Miles Mortuary,
Miami, Arizona
Former Town of Miami Mayor Elias C. Lazarin Jr passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at age 76.
Mr. Lazarin was born in Miami, Arizona on May 25, 1937 to Elias and Celestina Lazarin, both of whom preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Miami High School in 1957 and continued his post-secondary education at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.
After returning to Miami, he married the love of his life Alice, his wife of 53 years; and they went on to have three children, Tina, Grace and Greg; all of whom he is survived by. Elias watched his family grow to include his grandchildren; Jeremy Becker, Brandon Becker, Heather Torpin-Cortez, Elias Z. Lazarin, Gregory Lazarin, and Corrina Lazarin; and also a great grandson, Derrick Bejarano, and a great granddaughter Angel Martinez.
Mr. Lazarin loved his Town of Miami and was an advocate for causes that directly effected the community. He was a lifelong member of the United Steelworkers of America, organizing unions for workers all over the country. Elias also was a small business owner in the community; using his business to aide families of miners during lengthy strikes.
And healthcare was also a very important factor to Elias. He felt that by being on the Cobre Valley Community Hospital Board of Directors he could help bring quality healthcare to people in the mining communities who otherwise may not receive the same standard of treatment.
Elias loved spending time with his family watching sports and discussing politics. He was quick to help people who continued to flock to him for his expertise in areas such as contracts, union issues, legal issues, politics, minerology or an array of any other subjects. Elias was very well-known for his great eye when it came to yard saling, which made him of connesquier of antiques.
Mr. Lazarin is survived by a very large, loving extended family including his brother Richard Lazarin Sr. of Miami and his sister Carmen Salcido of Globe.
To begin to count the number of lives Mr. Lazarin has touched in his lifetime would be a task as great as counting all of the stars in the sky. He will be greatly missed.
