Bud Crawley
Arizona native, business icon, and family patriarch, Bud Crawley (“aka” Bud 1, Dad and Papa Bear), took his final road trip to Heaven on Friday October 11, 2013. Bud was more than a great man, he was a force. His passing leaves us all stunned and wishing for just one more of his quotes, wisdoms and yes, his jokes.
Bud’s journey began on October 21, 1935 in Phoenix. Born into the Crawley Clan, he was a fourth generation Arizonan. His parents Evie and JD Crawley left for Winslow when his was still a small boy. Rah! Rah! for Winslow! Bud was a talented athlete at Winslow High, and athletics could have been a calling, but his wanderlust led him to work the railroad, where he toured the US by rail.
Always on the move he started his next passion, teaching. Bud worked straight through to his master’s degree in history and secondary education at Arizona Teacher’s College, now Northern Arizona University. Oh and by the way, he was raising two little ones and working a full time job. No one remembers if he ever did just one job or career at a time. There was a moment when he taught in California. Maybe there was a movie offer pending, but Arizona was calling him home.
Back in Flagstaff, Bud began his business career. The Crawley Brothers were a dynamic duo, starting with their first partnership, the American Oil Company. The real estate business turned out to be Bud Crawley’s touchstone. Along with his brother Jerry, they formed Crawley Brother’s Real Estate. Bud had another brilliant idea to combine his love for teaching and real estate. He returned to the desert as a broker instructor, and Bud Crawley School of Real Estate was born.
And there was Cholla Bay, Mexico. This was siesta. This was manana. This was that place of retreat.
Bud says good bye to his beloved wife Kay, children Deidre (Jim Haslett), Keith, Kirsten, Jason (Missy), Torri Kinney, and Toby Smets(Carolyn); grandchildren, Tulasi, Logan (Colin), Chelsea (Micheal), Tyler (Amanda), Jesse, Kaden, Austin and Anthony; great grand-children Keely, Priya, Veda, Vraja and Riley, his Crawley Clan, and all his friends who are counted as family too. There is one more important family member, Bud’s puppy Bailey.
The heavenly welcoming committee includes his parents JD, Evie, Alice, John, and Claire, his brother Jerry, more of that Crawley Clan, and a friend or two as well.
Join us as we remember Bud Crawley at 10:00 am, Wednesday 10/16/2012, Grace Community Church, 1200 E Southern Ave, Tempe, AZ 85282.
…and remember: “Pay attention, this will be on the test.” Bud Crawley
