THOMPSON, George C.

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Friday, October 18, 2013 George C. Thompson was born June 16, 1918, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the son of Christian Thompson and Katherine (Pugh) Thompson. He passed away on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at home in Prescott Valley, Ariz. He was 95 years old. George proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married his loving wife, Merle Handley, on March 15, 1941. They shared 69 wonderful years of marriage. Three sons were born to George and Merle, George Jr., Kenneth Lee, and Howard. They raised two nieces, as well, Lillian and Patricia. Lillian and Patricia cared for him in Lillian's home for the past three years. He brought his family to Prescott, Ariz., in 1963, when he bought Mountain View Cemetery, and operated the cemetery for 45 years. Preceding George in death are his infant son, Howard, and his wife, Merle. He is survived by his sons, George Jr. and Kenneth (Karen); nieces, Lillian and Patricia; four grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. George has been cremated and a celebration of his life will be planned at a later date.
