GOLDEY, George Arthur


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Tuesday, September 10, 2013 - George Arthur Goldey passed away unexpectedly Aug. 31, 2013 at the age of 87. He was born in Jersey City, N.J. to Joseph W. and Helen J. (Grice) Goldey. George was a veteran of World War II, serving as a B-24 nose gunner with the U.S. Army Air Corps Flying Tigers in the China/Burma/India Theater. He earned a B.S. from Rutgers University and a M.S. from Columbia University. George was a special agent with the F.B.I. before beginning his teaching career. He met his wife, Florence, while they were both teachers in New Jersey. They married in 1957 and had two children, Mary Jo and Brian. George and his family moved to Scottsdale in 1967 where he was assistant principal at Saguaro High School until he became principal of Lake Havasu High School in 1969. George oversaw the construction of LHHS and remained principal until 1982. He was a charter member and past president of both London Bridge Rotary and Sunrise Rotary and was Chairman of the Facilities and Grounds Committee of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, overseeing the planning of the building of the new church. George was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Florence, and by their daughter, Mary Jo. He is survived by his son, Brian (Elizabeth); son-in-law, Brent Morris; grandchildren, Tricia Morris Mitchell (Josh), Jamie Morris, Alyssa Morris, Joseph Goldey and George Goldey; and by many beloved cousins. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church Sept. 11 at 11:00 a.m., preceded by a recitation of the rosary at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in George’s name be made to Boy Scout Troop 25, c/o Nicole Casado, 2963 Pony Circle, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86406.
