PRECKSHOT, Donna Irene

(Maiden Name: Dodge)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 10/25/2013 Donna Irene (Dodge) Preckshot, 76, went to her eternal rest Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at her home in “Hole In The Sky.” Donna, a direct descendent of the Dodge family, was born March 8, 1937, in Phoenix. She is survived by her sister, Janet Beard; and two nephews, Darrell and Craig Beard. Although spending time in California, Donna was a longtime resident of Arizona. She was also an avid student and earned multiple degrees, including a nursing degree and a master’s in public health. She served others as a nurse for over 45 years, including in the World Health Organization and Peace Corps, but her proudest accomplishment was the establishment of numerous free diabetic clinics for the residents on reservations throughout the Southwest. Known as “The Vegetable Lady,” Donna grew lots of nutritious food, which she gave away to others. She was also an avid animal lover and contributed to several animal rights organizations and humane societies. Even with her many accolades and public accommodations, she acted as a big sister and friend to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. In her honor, a “Celebration of Life” will be held, in the near future, for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, she would wish that any donations be made to local animal shelters. [Note: Parents were Stanley Laren Dodge and Lura Emily Cavin per AZ Birth Certificate]
