Robert Court (Bob) Gilchrist, 77, died Oct. 17, 2013, at his home in St. Johns. He was born Dec. 20, 1935, to Robert and Dorothy Buhl Gilchrist in Detroit, Mich.
On June 17, 1954, he graduated from Orange High School in Orange, Calif. A few months later, he joined the Marine Corps and honorably served from September 1954 to October 1957. Bob was a lifelong rancher and law enforcement officer; at one time serving as undersheriff of Apache County for former Sheriff C. Arthur Lee.
Bob enjoyed spending time at his ranch (Commodore Ranch); riding, taking care of his cattle and living the good life. He enjoyed reading and studying history. Any questions about history were usually answered with an extended story about the subject.
He is survived by his children: Donna (Rebel) Sanchez, Tammy (Howard) Belote, Vickie (Shawn) Bride, Buddy (Clara) Martin, Skeeter (Mary) McKinnon, Donna Gilchrist, Michael Gilchrist, Cindy (Randy) Ratcliffe, Frances McDonald, Robert Gilchrist, John Gilchrist and James Gilchrist; sisters Pam (Norm) Owens and Kathy West; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John Gilchrist.
