Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, October 27, 2013 - James (Jim) W. King Jr. Father, grandfather and friend, went home to be with the Lord, Oct. 19, 2013. Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Pauline; son, William (Willie); and daughter, Debra; stepchildren, Richard, Larry and Cheryl. Jim was preceded in death by his son, John; and two grandsons, Jesse and James. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Born Jan. 25, 1925, in Concord, N.H., to parents James W. King, Sr. and Ethel M. (Cate) King. He went to Eastman Elementary School in East Concord, N.H, graduating from Concord High School at age 18. He married Virginia, his first wife and the mother of his children in June 1947; living in East Concord for a few years working for the H.E. Humphrey’s Refrigeration Co. Having an early interest in boating he spent some of his summer days in Winnisquam with his mother and two siblings, all the while having fun with the small row boat, a canoe, a small boat we called the “pumpkin seed” and a kayak. Jim served honorably during World War II. On D-Day, Jim landed on Utah Beach, Normandy. Jim married Pauline H. Bird in December 1972. They moved to Lake Havasu City in 1989 to enjoy a long and fulfilling retirement. He performed volunteer work as a Sergeant on the Mojave County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue for many years. His favorite pastime was fishing; he loved rock hounding and also loved building RC model boats namely unlimited hydroplanes and racing them at the London Bridge model boat club events. Willie presented Jim with a Quilt of Valor for his service to his country during WWII. In October 2012, Jim and Pauline moved to Escondido, where he remained until his death.
