He was born March 2, 1912, at his parent’s home on what was then Back Street (now lst East.) He was the 9th of 11 children of Edward Milo and Phoebe Freeman Webb. After graduating from Snowflake High School, he married his sweetheart Josie Eileen Dowdle in 1933. Leo started working with his older brothers when he was about 10 years old loading sand and gravel by hand and driving the horses on freight wagons from Holbrook to Fort Apache. Eventually Dad bought a truck and the rest of his life he was a very hard worker. He bought a farm and raised acres of cucumbers, corn and alfalfa. He had cattle ranches, was the irrigation boss, cut and hauled wood and haued everything he could in his truck, including moving a circus that broke down in Show Low. Leo was a lifelong member of the LDS church and was financial secretary for several different bishops and High Priest Quorum secretary. He donated time and labor to civic and church activities including cutting wood for the annual Widow’s Wood Dance and hauling the sandstone blocks for the High School and the Main Street Chapel. Josie eventually joined the LDS Church and they were sealed in the Mesa Arizona temple in 1958. Leo has two daughters Eileen (Bob) Myers and Janet (Richard) Farnsworth both of Snowflake, nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josie, who died in 2000. Leo liked to say, “I was born on Back Street, lived my life on Back Street and I want to die on Back Street,” His wish was fulfilled. He died 1 ½ blocks from where he was born. Per Leo’s request only a graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 2, 2013. A viewing will be held at Silver Creek Mortuary at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 2, 2013, followed by a short program and burial at Mike Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake.
