Enriqueta Torres Quihuis, affectionately known as 'Mama Katie", passed away January 1, 2006.
Enriqueta was born December 5, 1910 in Chihuahua Mexico and immigrated to United States at the age of two with her family settling in Phoenix, Arizona. She was the oldest of three daughters born to Manuel and Guadalupe Torres.
She married Efrain V. Quihuis on July 30, 1936 and was blessed with four children.
A successful businesswoman, Enriqueta was the original owner of the La Tolteca Tortilleria located at 609 E. Washington in downtown Phoenix. Proud of her Mexican heritage, faith in God, and family, Enriqueta was a wonderful cook and shared her love of cooking with her family.
She is survived by her sister Emma Contreras, daughter and son-in-law Maria Elena and Abel Jimenez, and their children Reyna and Adriana; daughter and son-in-law Concepcion and Joe Cano, and their children, Cecelia, Diana, Henry, Lucy, and Michael; son and daughter-in-law Efrain and Frances Quihuis and their children Jeanne-Marie and Efrain III; daughter and son-in-law Luz Maria and Mike Wilson and Luz's children Bill and Katie; and cousin Rodolfo Domenzian.
"Mama Katie" was especially fond of her twenty great-grand children. With a wonderful sense of humor, she brought much joy and closeness to her family.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Basilica, 231 N. 3rd Street, in downtown Phoenix, on Friday, January 6th. A graveside service followed at St. Francis Cemetery.
