McDougal's Caldwell Funeral Chapel, Safford, Arizona Carol Vierthaler September 23, 1919 - November 4, 2013 Carol Vierthaler, 94 of Safford passed away at home on November 4, 2013. Carol was born September 23, 1919 to Louis Hartung and Kathering Heisler. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Vierthaler. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Funeral Chapel in Safford. Interment will be at the Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona. Carol Vierthaler, 94 is now with her soul mate, Fred, the love of her life and companion of 64 years who preceded her on this final journey in 2004. Carol was born September 23, 1919 in Prescott, Arizona. In her younger years Carol’s parents moved frequently, but the family always returned to Prescott, where she had known Fred from childhood. She and Fred were married in 1940 and moved to Jerome where Fred was employed in the mining operations there. They soon started a family which included four children, Charles, Robert, William and Valerie. In 1950 the family was transferred to Bisbee, Arizona with the Phelps Dodge Corporation and 24 years later also with the Phelps Dodge Corporation, Fred and Carol transferred to Safford, Arizona where besides being a devoted, loving mother and wife, Carol was an active 39 year member of the Mt. Graham Regional Auxiliary. Carol is survived by her son, Charles and his wife Caroline of Flagstaff, AZ; son, William and his wife Sandy of Silver City, NM; daughter, Valerie and her husband Martin, of Safford, AZ; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Besides her husband, Fred, Carol is preceded in death by her parents, L.B. and Katherine Hartung; son, Robert Vierthaler; daughter-in-law, Roberta Vierthaler; and grandsons, Chris and John Vierthaler. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell Funeral Chapel in Safford. Interment will be at the Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona at a yet to be determined date at which time Carol and Fred will truly be reunited and complete the circle of life as we know it. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Carol’s name to either the Mt. Graham Regional Hospital Auxiliary or the Arizona Humane Society.
