Nelson C. Nigrelli, 80, a 32 year resident of Scottsdale, passed away and joined his Lord and Redeemer on Saturday, August 16th, 2003.
Born in Buffalo, NY to Thomas D. and Lucia (Giarraffa) Nigrelli on May 27, 1923.
Nelson was raised in Buffalo with his four brothers, Salvatore (Julie), Russell (Annette), Joseph (Margaret) and Thomas (Joan) and his sister Grace (Jessie, deceased) Ramunno. All of his siblings survive him.
Nelson graduated from Canisius College (Cum laude) in 1943 and from the University of Buffalo Law School with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1947. Nelson began his career as a member of the Trust Department of Marine Midland Bank and remained there until he moved to Arizona in 1971. In Arizona he worked for the Department of Economic Security until he retired in 1988.
In 1951 he met his future wife, Charlotte Edwards. They were married November 27, 1952. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on November 27, 2002.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents and his infant daughter, Lucille. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; his sons, Thomas Karl Nigrelli and Paul Russell Nigrelli; his daughter Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Rogers and his grandson, Jordan W. Rogers. He is also survived by 22 nieces and nephews and their children.
Nelson belonged to the Canisius College and the University of Buffalo Law School Alumni Associations. He also belonged to Blessed Sacrament Parish: RCIA, Eucharistic Ministers, Legion of Mary and the Knights of Columbus-Pope John XXIII. Nelson was a kind, loving and supportive husband, father and friend. He cared about and was concerned about others. He was always willing to listen to others and give them help and support.
Visitation with a Rosary was at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale, AZ. Funeral Mass was on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 11300 N. 64th St., Scottsdale, AZ 85254. Burial at St. Francis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to National Parkinson's Foundation, 222 W. Thomas Rd., #209 Phoenix, AZ 85013 or to St. Vincent de Paul Society - Blessed Sacrament.
