Margaret Mary (Zwigard) Lavidge died peacefully on August 28, 2006, at age 83 in Scottsdale, Arizona, after battling Alzheimer's Disease for several years.
She was born and raised an only child by Margaret and William Zwigard in Puerto Rico.
She graduated with honors from DePauw University in 1945, where she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Lavidge. They were married for 60 years.
While Bob served in the Navy during WW II, Margaret taught school in Monterrey, Mexico. Soon after their marriage in 1946, they settled in the Chicago suburb of Western Springs. During their 35 years in the Chicago area, Margaret served as president of the library board, as a leader in the community theater and volunteered at Chicago's Art Institute and Field Museum.
In 1986, Margaret and Bob moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where she continued her community service as a guide in the Phoenix Heard Museum.
Margaret and Bob raised four children: Margaret Mary "Twinkle" Lavidge Gosselink of Austin, Texas: Kathleen Anne Lavidge McKinley of London, England; William Robert 'Bill' Lavidge of Scottsdale, Arizona; and Lynn Elizabeth Lavidge Rovelstad of Flagstaff, Arizona. In addition to these 4 children and her husband, she leaves 7 grandchildren.
Margaret was a truly loving and beloved person who had a sincere interest in others. She had an extraordinary ability to make others feel better about themselves, and had a deep appreciation of other cultures, the arts and the little things that make life special. Margaret instilled in others the importance of living a life of love and service to others.
A memorial service was in the Kilgore Chapel of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 6947 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arizona Alzheimer's Research Consortium at 901 East Willetta Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85006.
