Grady Mermon Barrett, age 98, passed away on Sept. 9 at Wickenburg Community Hospital after a short illness.
Grady was born on Jan. 13, 1915 in Gordon, Texas. He was preceded in death by a daughter many years previous and most recently by his loving wife, Syble Barrett, in January 2013 after a long illness. He is survived by two sons. Grady was a veteran of the U.S. Army, enlisting three different times, the last during World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theatre with honors. After returning from the war, he worked as a welder in the aircraft industry in California and Texas. He was honored to work in Florida for the Apollo space program in the 1960s. He operated his own business in Texas for many years.
Grady and Syble moved to Wickenburg in 2000, living at Desert Cypress and Country Club Park. He most recently attended church at The Place in Wickenburg.
Grady will be missed by all his friends in Wickenburg. He touched us with his humor, his love of life, his integrity and his compassion for others. Donations in his name may be sent to Hospice of the Valley.
