Eugene Iven Rhymer, ”Tonka,” passed away Oct. 11.
He was born Oct. 12, 1939 in Christiansted, St Croix, USVI. He graduated from Christiansted High School and worked most of his life for Public Works.
He loved music and was a member of the Horsford Scratch Band. Some of his favorite artists were Stanley and the 10 Sleepless Nights, Llewellyn, Generic, Derby, Sparrow and Short Shirt.
He loved horse racing and going to the casino.
Mr. and Mrs. Rhymer arrived in Wickenburg in January 2013, and in the short time he lived here, he developed several lovely friendships. He enjoyed going to the theater and attended both showings of the summer theatre Camp Imagination musical, “The Wizard of Oz.” He enjoyed the game show “Family Feud.” He also enjoyed movies and liked the comfort and ambience of the Saguaro Theatre.
He is survived by his wife Brownie (Sharon E. Rhymer) of Wickenburg; brother Melvin (St. Croix); sisters Kathleen, Gerde, Inez (St. Croix), Edris (St. Thomas), and Lillian (New York); sister-in-law Everne (St. Croix); sons Raymond, Delroy, Clifford and Eugene, Jr.; daughters Irma Jean, Sarah, Ena, Brenda and Debbie; and his dear friend Roy Rey on St. Croix; in Arizona, Harold Brown, Ginny and Ken Peck, Wendy and CR Clausen, Carol Thill, Julia Hill, Margie Brinkman and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 9) at the First Presbyterian Church, 178 N. Adams St. in Wickenburg. In lieu of flowers, he requested donations be made to the Animal Welfare Society.
