RUSSELL, Charles Edsel (Chuck)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, November 13, 2013 Charles Edsel "Chuck" Russell, 80, of Prescott, Ariz., passed gently from this world surrounded by his loving family on Oct. 16, 2013. Chuck was born and raised in Phoenix, son of a pioneer family. He spent his college years in Santa Barbara, Calif., where he met the love of his life, Evelyn, at Westmont College. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in Maryland, Puerto Rico and Alaska, Chuck and Evelyn settled in Tempe. Chuck's Navy training and his work with the National Security Agency led him to a job at Motorola, where he worked in research and development on early computer components. Eventually, Chuck followed his passion, and returned to school to earn his master's degree at ASU in education, guidance and counseling. He then worked for 17 years as a school psychologist in the Madison and Avondale school districts. He instilled in his family a love for camping, fishing, road trips, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors. The family spent many summers traveling throughout the West. Chuck also had a great love for God, spent many years studying religious and spiritual teachings, and sought to live a life in harmony with higher principles. Chuck and Evelyn retired to Prescott in 1999. He continued his passion for working with children, as a CASA volunteer and with Big Brothers Big Sisters. He also volunteered with People Who Care and the Yavapai Humane Society. Loving husband and nurturing father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Chuck is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn; one son, David; two daughters, Joyce (Michael Goodwin) and Carol (Daniel Wasserman); six grandchildren, Lisa, Travis, Brandi, Nathan, Claire and Austin; three great-grandchildren, Chase, Seth and Blake; and a large, loving extended family and circle of friends. A celebration of life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Unity Church of Prescott, 145 S. Arizona, Prescott, Ariz. Information provided by survivors.
