BURKE, Mary Josephine

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, November 13, 2013 Mary Josephine Burke Mary, my wife, died Nov. 2, 2013. I really miss her. We dated for seven years, then I returned from the Army and we married on April 11, 1953, and remained so for 60 years. We were only in Prescott for nine years, but Mary became a friend of everyone she met. If you were not shopping in Penney's, Kohl's, Sears, Ross, or for groceries, you may have missed her. She was friendly, and within three words of a conversation someone would ask, "Where are you from?" Her response was "Boston, Massachusetts,"and the new buddies would discuss every store in Prescott. We originally came to Arizona to avoid the crowds in California and to check out the hospitals in Cottonwood, but that changed quickly when Mary asked, "Where do you shop?" The real estate agent's response was, "in Prescott." We drove over the mountain trail between the two towns and never left Prescott. Prescott is the town for us. Mary is waiting for me in Heaven and, although our bodies will be buried next to each other, our souls will be together in Heaven. A Rosary will be 7 p.m. Nov. 21, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury Ave., Prescott, Ariz. Information provided by survivors.
