Paul Charles Marince was born at home in Morrisdale, Pa., on Dec. 27, 1921, and passed away in his sleep on Nov. 4, 2013. He attended the University of Michigan for one semester and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Paul piloted a B-17 bomber and flew 30 missions over Germany from England, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. After WWII, he returned to the University of Michigan and completed his degree in advertising. He married Irene Carol Johnson in 1948 and had five sons, Mark, Charles, James, Paul T. and Peter.
In 1990, Paul retired and moved to Prescott, Ariz., with Irene. While in Prescott, Paul led an active social and recreational life. He participated in community service, maintained an interest in the arts, and was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church.
Paul and Irene celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in August of 2013. He will be remembered as a family man, a conscientious citizen and a patriot.
He is survived by his wife Irene; five sons, Mark, Charles, James, Paul T. and Peter; sister Theresa; niece Sue; grandchildren Amber, Christian and Chad; and great-grandchildren Griffin and Lucy.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at The National Veterans Cemetery in Prescott. A reception will follow from 2 until 4 p.m. in the Basset Room at The Cornell Activity Center in Hidden Valley, 1615 Coyote Road, Prescott.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in Paul's name to the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System, Prescott Veterans Hospital, 500 Highway 89 North, Prescott, AZ 86313, and indicate in the memo space Paul Marince/Social Work.
