Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Richardson Popof died March 24, 2013, in Prescott, Ariz. at the age of 94.
Four daughters, Natasha, Robin, Tanya and Christina; six grandchildren; and a dear baby great-granddaughter survive her.
Betsy was born in Reading, Pa., to Edgar and Juliet Richardson. She graduated from William and Mary College. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She pursued a career in journalism and worked for Time and Newsweek in NYC. She married Valentine Popof, a naval officer, and settled in Bethesda, Md. They retired to Prescott, Ariz., where Betsy joined the Prescott Docents. Later she became a docent for the Phoenix Art Museum and the Scottsdale Museum. The governor of Arizona honored her for her volunteer work with children.
She loved tai chi, swimming, meditation, Unity, coffee and chocolate. She was a passionate reader and always had a New York Times crossword puzzle in her hand. One of her greatest joys was traveling with her children and grandchildren. Hawaii was one of her favorite destinations. She filled the world with her "Aloha spirit," her beautiful smile and constant care for others.
A celebration of life memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Unity Church in Prescott. No flowers, please.
