Dale Richard Alberts, 84, passed away Oct. 25, 2013, in Tucson Ariz.
Dale was born on July 16, 1929, in Sioux City,Iowa the son of Robert Walter Alberts and Bessie Charlotte (Cushing) Alberts.
On May 31, 1952, Dale married Patricia Brown Alberts in Bangor, Maine, while serving in the military. They had four daughters during their marriage, Susan, Diane, Nancy and Lisa. On Nov. 18, 1977, he married Geraldine "Gerry" Cline Alberts.
Dale attended Morningside College and University of South Dakota where he earned a master’s degree in education. He was a teacher, truant officer and counselor in both Nebraska and in the Sioux City schools. He was also a fine carpenter and built several homes in Sioux City. Dale retired in 1989 and moved to Tucson in 1996.
Dale proudly served in both the Air Force and Navy Reserve for 32 years. He enjoyed time with family, traveling, sports, camping and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming. He loved to snow and water ski and had a passion for flying. He spent many hours doing woodworking and gardening and always had a knack for telling jokes. He organized the Siouxland Ski Club in 1975. The club grew from 23 charter members to 520 in just four years.
He is survived by his wife, Gerry; children, Susan (Bill) Hoss of Sioux City, Diane Alberts of Tarpon Springs Fla., Nancy (Ray) McGaugh, of Fayetteville Ark., Lisa (Jeff) Pape, of Clovis Calif., and Douglas (Shelley) Ware of Petersburg, Alaska; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Rick (Pam) Strayer, Jim (Deb) Strayer, Loree (John) Swartzendruber, Lisa (Jeff) Jacobson; 12 stepgrandchildren; a great-stepgrandchild; sister, Marjorie Alberts Clausen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Alberts of Walla Walla, Wash.
A celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. Monday November 4, 2013 at Vista de la Montana United Methodist Church, Tucson.
A celebration of life service will also be held in June, date pending, at St. James United Methodist Church in Sioux City.
