Newell "Nick" Butler Kean Jr. passed from this life on Nov. 7, 2013, in Felton, Calif. He was born on Sept. 12, 1928, in Huntington, W.Va., the son of Newell and Bertha Kean.
During World War II, Nick served in the Marine Corps, entering the military on Jan. 28, 1946. Nick married Mardelle Marie Fisher in Ft. Wayne, Ind., on Sept. 30, 1950. To this union three sons were born: Roger, Ross and Wayde.
Nick was a master craftsman, avid golfer and fine storyteller. The Keans lived in California from 1960 until 1990 when they retired in Arizona. They were always active, enjoying their many friends, traveling many places, and being active in church, both at the Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Pleasant Hill, Calif. for 30 years as well as the Prescott Christian Church in Prescott, Ariz.
Preceding Nick in death were his eldest son, Roger, in 1981, and his loving wife Mardelle in 2010 after 60 years of marriage.
Survivors include his son Ross of Bremerton, Wash., and his son Wayde and his wife Alicia of Felton, Calif.
Nick moved back to California in 2013 and during his last days there made many new friends associated with the Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
