JACQUEZ, Sefrina (Sefy)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 11/26/2013 Sefrina “Sefy” Jacquez, 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, in Springerville. She was born Aug. 27, 1937, in Aragon, N.M., the daughter of Benito Jacquez and Dolores Gonzalez. Sefy was a waitress for 53 years, lovingly serving her many friends and customers their coffee and meals with personalized attention, often waking at 3 a.m. to make sure the coffee was hot and ready. She regularly attended to celebrities such as John Wayne, Barry Goldwater and Scott Baio (Chachi). She first began her career at the age of 9 at The Silver Spur Café, then onto the Brockman Steakhouse and Reed’s Restaurant, eventually retiring from the Safire Restaurant in 1999. Above all else, Sefy loved her community and enjoyed volunteering at benefit dinners and for her church, as well as delivering her famous tamales and pasole to her friends during the holidays. She was also inducted as an honorary Rotarian. Our Mom had a love for the White Mountains and jumped at every chance to be on the mountain; camping, fishing and hunting, and also enjoyed boating at Roosevelt Lake, even though she never learned to swim. Sefy is survived by her son, Arsenio Jaquez Ulibarri Jr. of Apache Junction; three daughters: Roberta (George) Reed of Eagar; Dolores Ulibarri of Chandler; Eva (Doyel) Wilson of Eagar; two brothers: Benito Jaquez and Tony Jaquez, both of Phoenix; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart. A rosary was held at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Springerville. A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, also at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Round Valley Senior Center Food Bank or Round Valley Cares Inc. Leave an online condolence at www.burnhammortuary.com. Burnham Mortuary of Eagar handled arrangements.
