Thelma Mineer Goodman passed away on November 21, 2013, in Flagstaff, Arizona. She was born November 14, 1926, in St. Johns, Arizona, to John Alma Mineer and Ione Gibbons Mineer.
She spent her younger years in St. Johns, McNary, and Flagstaff, where she graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1943. Thelma went on to attend the Cadet Nurses Corps in El Paso, Texas, during World War II. She met her eternal companion, T.E. “Gene” Goodman, in the 6th grade in McNary, they were married in 1947.
They spent their early years of marriage in Winslow where Barbara, Tom, and Virginia were born. They moved to Flagstaff in 1951 where they resided for the past 62 years. Thelma studied as a dental lab tech working for Dr. John Stilley and then Dr. Howard Wren for many years, as a certified dental assistant. She then co-owned and managed Cedar Health Food Center until she retired in the mid-1980s. Thelma also served in many civic and church positions.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. “Gene” Goodman, Sr., Barbara (Fred) Klug of Show Low, Thomas E. (Carolyn) Goodman, Jr., of Flagstaff, and Virginia (Stephen) West of Cave Creek, 6 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Friday, November 29, 6-8 p.m., at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff, AZ 86001.
Interment will follow on Saturday, November 30, at 2 p.m., at the Citizens Cemetery, Veterans Section, 1300 S. San Francisco St., in Flagstaff. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 21, at 10 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lake Mary Chapel, 4165 S. Lake Mary Road, Flagstaff, Arizona 86005.
