Silver Creek Mortuary, Taylor, Arizona Ermalinda Garcia (October 29, 1950 - November 21, 2013) Ermalinda C. Garcia was born on October 29, 1950 to Margaret and Phillip Stago. Erma was raised in the community of Seven Mile. She enjoyed the sport of rodeo and was the first female bull rider in the area. She won the titles of Ms. White Mountain Apache and WMAT Rodeo Queen. Erma graduated from Alchesay High School and went on the attend Northern Arizona University where she majored in Nursing. She had many occupations throughout her life but enjoyed working with children and the elderly the most. She was a true public servant who continued to help people even after she retired. Erma touched many lives; sharing her experiences and offering prayer and support to those who suffered from illness. Erma loved her family- her husband and children, but had a special love and affection for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her fun-loving spirit came out when she attended games and activities for her grandchildren. She was usually the first to arrive at any event and always provided home-made snacks for everyone. Erma loved to color and play board games with her grandchildren. She was known as the “Trouble” champion because she was relentless when it came to that board game. Erma also loved to fish and would jump at the opportunity to go to the lake for a day of fishing. She also enjoyed camping with her family. For the latter part of her life, Erma suffered from illness and endured chronic pain. She was a woman of deep faith and relied on her Catholic faith and Apache tradition to make it through the day. On November 21, 2013 while surrounded by her husband and children, she was answered the Lord’s call and took her place in Heaven. Erma is survived by her husband Leandro Garcia Sr. Children: Lucian & Lorena Garcia; Renee Garcia; Leeann & Roderick Lacapa; Damenique & Garrick Declay; Dezeray Garcia & Jonathan Lacapa; Leandro Jr& Kerri Garcia. Her siblings: Phillip Stago Jr; Beverly Stago and Tammy Stago. She had 17 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, friends and relatives. Erma’s body will be brought to her home in Diamond Creek for a one night wake on Sunday December 1, 2013 at 10 a.m. Her funeral will be on Monday December 2, 2013 at 10 a.m. St. Francis Catholic Church with Father Ed Fronske officiating. Burial will be at the Ft. Apache Post Cemetery. All are welcome to pay their final respects to a wonderful woman.
