Donald B. Massie, 81, passed peacefully on Nov. 27, 2013, in Prescott, Ariz. He was born on June 27, 1932, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Wilfred and Dorothy Massie. He graduated from Los Angeles High School.
Don was honorably discharged from the Navy Reserve after eight years of service. Donald was a faithful and steadfast friend to many and to some a beloved and admired comrade for virtually all of a lifetime. Don was the ultimate problem-solver, ready at once to extend a skillful and willing hand to ease someone's concern. In his modest way, he was quite simply a superb human being. He will be missed by those who had the privilege of sharing his life with him.
He married the love of his life, Patricia, on Valentine's Day 1981. Together they shared their love of travel, adventure and family.
Don is survived by his loving wife Pat; children Donald, Robert, Scott, Patrick and Patricia; 10 grandchildren; his sister Melinda; and a brother, Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Martha Ann; and a nephew, Gary.
Don had a passion for steam trains and traveled the world pursuing his hobby. He also had a love of all animals and owned many different kinds over his lifetime. Don was a member of The Sunup Rotary Club in Prescott where he became active after moving to Prescott in 2011.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with service starting at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Heritage Memory Mortuary, 131 Grove Ave., Prescott, Ariz.
There will be a graveside service 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at the San Fernando Mission Catholic Cemetery Mission Hills, Calif. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the local SPCA chapter in Don's memory.
