William Gray Jr. (Bill) 89 of Sun City Vistoso passed away peacefully on Thursday November 28, 2013.
Bill is survived by his wife Audrey Gray; daughter Connie Voight; sons James (Lois) Gray and William M. (Cindy) Gray; two sisters Rosemary Derfler and Virginia Miller and many nieces and nephews.
He has eight grandchildren: John Voight, Ben Voight, Michael Gray, Martin Gray, Elizabeth Watson, Timothy Gray, Michele Shacter and Megan Gray.
He also has six great-grandchildren: Zoey Gray, Adam Gray, Hannah Gray, Alex Smith, Matthew Gray and Olivia Shacter.
Bill was born in the coal mining town of VanVoorhis, Pennsylvania. His family moved to Monogahela, PA where Bill spent his childhood and most of his early adult life. He helped his parents who owned and operated several movie theaters, which instilled a life-long love for movies.
Bill married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Young, in January 1944. He was drafted into the Army in 1943, serving in New Guinea. After he was discharged, he attended the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering.
He retired in 1983 as the Superintendent of Maintenance of the Gary Tube Works for US Steel . While employed with US Steel he was transferred from Pittsburgh to Gary, Indiana. Bill and Audrey lived in Ogden Dunes, IN for over 30 years.
Bill loved the water and enjoyed fishing and boating, especially with his family.
He and Audrey moved to Tucson in 1993 to warm up after many years of snow and cold weather of the midwest.
Besides the love for his family, Bill was a model railroad enthusiast and collector. He also enjoyed ceramics and working with stained glass.
Daddio, you will be dearly missed for your love, humor and great teachings. Your "stories" will live on in our hearts forever as will the love we all feel for you.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Friday December 6, 2013 at Vistoso Funeral Home with a visitation from 10:00 am until service time. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery.
