PHELPS, COL. USAF, Gene C.

Thompsons Valley West Funeral Chapel, Goodyear, Arizona Dr. Gene C. Phelps, Retired Colonel USAF, died at home on November 29th, 2013, surrounded by family. He was born December 13th, 1923 in Wells, MN to Roy C. and Mildred Christianson Phelps. Gene received his DVM at Iowa State University in 1946 and his MPH from Harvard in 1955. He married Emma Jean Webb September 14th, 1946. Gene entered the Air Force in 1951, retiring in 1975 as a Colonel. His final assignment was at Andrews AF Base as the Systems Command Veterinarian. He received numerous commendations. After retiring from the AF Gene worked as the Veterinary Consultant for Hill’s Pet Products covering the Rocky Mountain States and Hawaii. He was predeceased by his son Gregory Webb Phelps in 1966. He is survived by his wife Jean “Pug;” daughter, Kathryn D. Frantz- Litchfield Park; son, Ronald Brian Phelps (Susan)-Salt Lake City; granddaughter, Elizabeth Davis (Frederick)- Litchfield Park; grandson, Charles B. Reid (Deanna)- Seattle; grandson, Cody B. Phelps-Los Angeles; and great-grandson, Collin G.N. Davis-Litchfield Park; niece, Becky Young-Minneapolis; nephew, Michael Webb-Nebraska; nephew, Jeffery Webb-Florida; and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Webb-Iowa. A service will be held on December 13th, at 10:30 am at the Church at Litchfield Park.
