Vining Funeral Home, Safford, Arizona Edd Hubbard April 15, 1936 - December 6, 2013 Vining Funeral Home, Safford, Arizona Edd Hubbard April 15, 1936 - December 6, 2013 Edd Hubbard, age 77, of Pima, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, December 6, 2013 after a valiant fight with cancer. In life and in passing, he was surrounded by his family, and certainly enjoyed a sweet reunion with his loving parents, Gil and Lola Hubbard, 2 brothers, Keith and Dell Hubbard, Parents-in-law, Abner and Nina Martin, Sisters-in-law, Kay Fyffe and Kathy Hubbard and Brothers-in-law, Hoyt A. Martin, Hugh Martin, Carl Bryce and Lavell Martin who preceded him in death. Edd was born April 15, 1936 to Gil and Lola Hubbard in Bryce, Arizona. He was raised during his early years in Bryce and later moved to Pima, AZ where he resided all his days. Edd spent countless hours on the Bryce Family Ranch in his growing years. It was there that he was taught the lessons that would shape his life. After serving as a soldier in the Army, he married his one and only sweet heart – Merna Fyffe. They were married August 24, 1960 in the Mesa, AZ LDS Temple for time and all eternity. Edd graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree of Education from Arizona State University and a Master’s of Education from the University of Arizona. After graduating from ASU he returned to his High School Alma Mater, Pima High School as a Jr. High Science teacher and coach. He remained at Pima High for 25 years. During this time he also served as Athletic Director, Principal and Superintendant. Working with the students and players gave him great joy! He taught them more than winning on the field; he taught them to do the right thing for the right reason. He lived by values that Vince Lombardi set. Coach Hubbard enjoyed many championship seasons and was later honored by the naming of the PHS football field to “Edd Hubbard Field”. After retiring from Pima in 1985 he was immediately employed by Northern Arizona University as a Field Site Coordinator and enjoyed helping many students further their education. Edd was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings. Edd and Merna served a successful LDS service mission at a ranch in Montana. Edd’s passions included his family and horses. He touched many lives in his lifetime, but most importantly he blessed the lives of his family! He is survived by his eternal companion Merna, children Warren and Kristi Hubbard, Vicky and Alan Palmer, Jody and Chris Wessel, 7 precious grandchildren who adore him, and Viola Hubbard, Elaine Dallas, James “Buck” Martin, Phil Martin, Marva Bryce, and Russell Martin…. We wish to thank Dr. Trent Batty, Cochise Radiology, Mount Graham Hospice and numerous family and friends for love and support that was given to Edd.
