The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 12/10/2013 Julia Mae Dunn, 61, died at home Nov. 14, 2013. She was born June 20, 1952, in Troy, N.C., to George S. Fishel Sr. and Annis C. Fishel. Julia was predeceased by her parents, George S. Fishel Sr. and Annis C. Fishel, and brother George S. FisheI Jr. Julia is survived by her loving husband and best friend, PhiIIip C. Cory; sister Betty McConnell of Jackson Springs, N.C.; daughters: Jeannine Mae HolJoway (Christopher) and Vanessa Estes (R.J.); sons Shane Cory (Tara) and Sean Cory (Caroline), and nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. Julia began nursing at the age of 14, working in the hospital with her mother in Pinehurst, N.C. After moving to Arizona in 1982, she soon met the love of her life, Phillip C. Cory. They later moved to Lakeside after falling in love with the White Mountains. Julia’s passion of helping others encouraged her to spend her life working in the nursing field, obtaining more than eight licenses, including phlebotomy, LPN, EMT and certified insurance medical examiner. Julia was the most proud of her family. She loved every holiday celebration and cherished every moment with her husband, children, grandchildren and her young great-grandson. She had a beautiful passion for music and loved to sing. She was also known as “the Purple Lady,” she touched the heart of everyone who met her, always with outstretched arms to offer a hug and a smile. To all that knew her, Julia offered love and encouragement. In honor and celebration of her life, her family asked those attending to wear beautiful, bright colors that Julia so dearly loved. Julia’s celebration of life was held Dec. 3 at the Elks Lodge in Show Low.
