The Verde Independent, Cottonwood, Arizona Saturday, December 14, 2013 Grace Ann Lomaintewa, 68, of Camp Verde passed away December 10, 2013. She was born February 17, 1945 at Fossil Creek, Arizona to the late Gladys Johnson Smith and Scotty Smith, Sr. Grace worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator for the YAN Indian Action Team. She graduated from Sherman Indian High School in Riverside, California where she was awarded the Betty Crocker Homemaking Award and sang in the high school choir. She also attended and graduated from the Loma Linda Nursing School in Loma Linda, California and worked as a Registered Nurse. She attended Yavapai College and studied computers and accounting and worked for the YAN Finance Department and as Procurement and Supply Coordinator. She served on many boards such as the JOM Parent Board, Chief Judge of the Election Board, the Constitution Committee, the Law and Order Code Committee, Tribal Gaming Commission, Tribal Council, Board of Directors of Bread of Life. She attended the Assembly of God Church. She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity for her family and community. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Iris Lomaintewa; her grandsons, Donovan, Julian, and Joshua Lomaintewa; her four sisters; her three brothers and her faithful canine companion, Buster and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gladys; her sister, Betty and her brother, Justin. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 14, 2013 at The Camp Verde Rock Church with interment to follow at Yavapai-Apache Nation Cemetery. Information provided by survivors.
