Philip Arthur Hauan passed away Nov. 18, 2013 in Lake Havasu City at the age of 85. He was born July 31, 1928 in Forest City, Iowa to Arthur I. and Thelma (Austin) Hauan.
Philip enlisted in the Army right after graduating high school in 1946 and served until being honorably discharged in 1949. During his service he served in the Finance Department of the United States Army, spent 26 months in Japan with Headquarters 8th Army Budget & Accounts Division and attained rank of Staff Sergeant. He met then married the love of his life, Virginia Lou Norstrud June 4, 1950.
Philip attended Drake University and received his Bachelor of Education Degree in music in 1952 and the summer of 1954 he went to the University of Colorado and graduated in work administration. He worked as a high school band director from 1952 through 1958. He changed his career working as an office manager for Well’s Blue Bunny. He then became office manager at NIPCO and was promoted to general manager and executive vice president. He retired from NIPCO after 39 years. He served as mayor of Le Mars for four years.
Philip is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia Hauan, Lake Havasu City; son, James P. Hauan (Katherine), of Scottsdale; daughters, Cheryl L. Binding, of Lake Havasu City and Nancy R. Kennon (Curtis), of Phoenix; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Nov. 23, 2 p.m., with Pastor Jim Price officiating.
