JoAnne Maxine Chastain was born to Theodore Roosevelt “Boots” Tedder and Claire Lockie, Oct. 1, 1934 in Springerville, Ariz. She died Dec. 14, 2013 in Lake Havasu City.
After graduating from Litchfield High School in Litchfield Park, Ariz., she wed Jesse Jack Chastain. With his sister, they married in a double wedding ceremony in Quartzite, Sept. 6, 1952. JoAnne spent most of her adult life in Fontana, Calif. as a wife, manager of a bowling alley, and medical records clerk for Kaiser Permanente. After their retirement, she and Jesse moved to Lake Havasu City in 1998.
JoAnne was very active in her children’s lives, from their formative years, through high school and into their adult lives. She was the glue that held the family together. She “died a happy lady. I wouldn’t have done anything different.” She adored her grandchildren and greatly enjoyed traveling for their various sporting activities. JoAnne’s sharp memory has provided great stories and interesting history about the family. Her favorite hobby was reading, and one of her favorite series was the Bobbsey Twins.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Jack in May 2010. She is survived by her daughter and three sons: Debra White (Rick), Jeffrey, Timothy (Sunny) and Jody (Heidi Hodge); her adoring grandchildren, Jason O’Neal, Jeremy O’Neal, Christopher White, Dawn Marie White, Jamie Chastain-Kesick, Jeffrey Chastain, Amy Chastain Brannon, Ciana Chastain, Javan Chastain, Jordan Chastain, and Laurie Morrison; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. We will dearly miss her lively conversations, humor and spunk.
JoAnne raised her family in the Missionary Baptist faith. She requested that we provide no funeral or memorial service. She asked that we hold her memory within us.
