Best Known Miner of Arizona Dies
Phoenix, June 18 - In the death of Tim O'Brien at Jerome the mining camps of the great west lose a familiar character, widely and favorably known wor (for) the past thirty-five years.
Deceased was a native of Ireland, aged about 60 years. Before he reached his majority he left his native land to seek a home in the United States, and immediately after his arrival cast his lot worth the then partially explored regions of the west.
He was a familiar figure in Virginia City, Nev. during the palmy days of the Comstock, and when that great producer went on the decline he left for Montana, where, for many years, he worked in the Butte mines.
About twenty years ago he came to this territory, and after the purchase of the United Verde mines at Jerome by Senator Clark, accepted a position there, which he filled for many years, except at intervals, when he visited other mining camps in the territory, in many of which he had, from time to time, made profitable investments.
About seven years ago the effect of his labors, for more than a quarter of a century, in the bowels of the earth, commenced to make inroads upon his constitution, and he retired from active work with a competency.
Transcriber's note: Mr. O'Brien is buried at the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona at an unknown gravesite.
