Arthur "Art" Seifert, 83, died at his home near Tucson, Arizona, on December 28, 2013, following a year of treatment for multiple myeloma.
Art was born and raised on Long Island, New York. He graduated from Yale College in 1952 and went on to Columbia Law School, from which he received his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1955. He fulfilled his military obligation in the U.S. Coast Guard, and was honorably discharged at the rank of Lt. Commander.
He was admitted to the practice of law in New York in 1959 and practiced in the law firm Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts. In 1960 he moved to Denver, Colorado and became a partner in the law firm Sherman & Howard, where he remained until his retirement in 1992.
Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Hamilton, Montana, where they enjoyed 20 years of rural life. In 2012 they moved to Saddlebrooke Ranch, a retirement community north of Tucson.
Art is survived by his wife, Kerstin; son Stephen Seifert and his partner, Davol Tedder, of Denver; daughter Carolyn Wachuta, son-in-law Timothy, and 3 grandchildren: Christopher, Brooke and Sabrina, of Lakewood, Colorado; his sister, Dorothy Tennant, of Lafayette, New York; and Stephen and Carolyn’s mother, Frances, of Denver.
The family plans a private celebration of Art’s life.
