Norman C. Hintz, 76, of Avondale, passed away unexpectedly on December 07, 2013. He was born to the late Fred and Lucille Hintz, November 16, 1937 in Freeport, Illinois.
Norm graduated from Lena High School in 1955 and received both a bachelor’s and master’s degree of architecture from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1962 and 1963, respectively. Later on in life, he received his doctor of education from Nova Southeastern University.
During his time at the University of Illinois, Norm joined the Corps of Engineers Advanced ROTC. He then went on to proudly serve 26 years in the U.S. Army, and in that time served three tours in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He received the Legion of Merit as a major in 1973 and became a licensed architect in 1974. Norm met his wife, Chong-Sook on his second tour to Korea and they married in 1979. He was promoted to colonel in 1981 and retired from the service seven years later.
Upon retiring from the Army, Norm moved to Flagstaff to work as Vice President of Business Affairs for Northern Arizona University for ten years. After retiring from NAU, Norm moved down to Avondale to work for Maricopa County for four years. He then decided to work primarily as architecture consultant, forming his own consulting firm, NCHassociates LLC, in 2003.
Norm finally retired in 2010, to focus on more important things, such as improving his golf swing, catching up on his reading, and spending quality time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Norm is survived by his wife, Chong-Sook Hintz; his daughter, Alisa Hintz; his son, Patrick Hintz and his wife Tarrah; and his grandchildren, Kaleb and Robert Hintz.
