Frances Marian (Hurst) Booth, 90, of Independence, Mo., died, Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at the Villages of Jackson Creek.
Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Open Arms Community of Christ Church, 1021 W. College St., Independence, MO 64050. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in her name to Outreach International or Community of Christ Dome & Spire Organ Foundation.
Frances was born July 31, 1923, in Chicago, Ill., to Ray L. and Mollie (Heerlein) Hurst. She received her master's degree in education and taught in public schools in Washington, D.C., then Virginia for more than 30 years. She took lifelong pleasure in playing piano and organ, writing hymns and poetry, and taught writing classes in her 80s. She was a member of the Community of Christ, Prescott and Phoenix Central Congregations, and an active supporter of Outreach International, Kids Bible Club in Jonesboro, Ark., Whispering Pines Campgrounds in Arizona, and Graceland University.
She is survived by nieces and nephews of three generations on both sides of the family, including nieces Linda Daily and Carol Steede Spaulding; great-niece Julie (Birks) Shaw; great-nephews Ryan Birks and Stephen Daily; and great-great-niece Joscelyn Shaw.
She was preceded in death by her husband Boyd L. Booth in 1990, and a sister, Helen Steede.
