Abelardo (Al) Leon Ortiz of Kingman went home Jan. 7, 2014, welcomed by his beloved wife Genevieve.
Abelardo was born Oct. 22, 1925, in Tucson to Frank and Angelita Ortiz. He was the oldest of his siblings. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Al spent many years in California raising his family, retiring from the Operating Engineers Local 12 as an equipment operator, and then moved to Kingman. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3516, member of the American Legion Post 14. Al enjoyed spending time with his family, outdoors/camping, traveling, and he loved his candy, peanuts, and Pepsi. Back in his young days he enjoyed riding his Harleys. Al will be greatly missed. He was an irreplaceable father and grandfather.
Abelardo is survived by his sons, Fred (Louise) Bianes of Kingman and Roger Ortiz of Pierre, S.D.; daughters Lily Fonte of Pierre and Olivia (Mark) Mangrum of Kingman; grandchildren David (Carrie) Bianes, Jeffrey (Mary) Bartholomew, Gerald Bartholomew, Ginger Mangrum, Matthew (Alicia) Ortiz, Marque (Ray) Vines and Travis Mangrum (Lyndsay);15 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Genevieve.
