Dario John Gatti of Chino Valley, Ariz., passed away at his home on Dec. 30, 2013. He was born June 21, 1932, in Barisciano, L'Aquila, Italy, the son of Guilio and Ersilia Gatti.
He was a graduate of Bellaire (Ohio) High School, class of 1951, and Montana University Western, class of 1961.
Dario met and married JoAnn Albert of Wheeling, W.Va., in December 1957. Dario was employed as a teacher/coach in Southwestern Schools (Grove City, Ohio), Hamilton High School and Mifflin High School. He retired from Southwestern City Schools in 1984.
Dario served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean Conflict. He was a charter member of the Grove City Sertoma Club. Western square dancing and camping were his retirement activities. He was a member of Western square dancing clubs and camping clubs Square Wheels and Country Campers.
Dario and JoAnn enjoyed many winters in Harlingen, Texas, before settling down in Chino Valley, Ariz.
Dario is survived by his wife of 56 years, JoAnn, and four loving children, Bernard (Judy) Gatti of Grove City, Ohio, Marcia Gatti of Prescott, Ariz., Cynthia (John) Garner of Prescott, and Carolyn (Steve) Duchene of Alexandria, Va. Seven grandchildren survive Dario: Nicholas Gatti, Vincent Gatti, James Garner, Martha Garner, Lauren Wiley, Kelsi Duchene and Tessa Duchene.
He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Gatti of Erie, Pa.; nephews Mario and Michael Gatti and niece Janice Gatti, all of Erie; and niece Phyllis (David) Skwara of Maryland. Joseph Albert of Wheeling, W.Va., and Michael (Laura) Albert of Charleston, W.Va., survive as brothers-in-law.
Dario was predeceased by his parents of Shadyside, Ohio; a sister, Rena Bizzari and husband Jimmie; and nephews Jimmie and Rickie. His brother, Mario, also preceded him in death.
Dario is a member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 2062 N. Highway 89, Chino Valley, Ariz. His cremains will be interred at Veterans Administration Cemetery, Prescott.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Chino Valley, Ariz. Donations appreciated to St. Catherine's Catholic Church.
