Marion Barry Webb, 77, loving brother, husband, father and grandfather, returned to live with our Father in heaven Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, in Mesa. He was born May 23,1936, in Kingman, the oldest child to Klaire LeMon Webb and Yeteive B. Haws Webb.
In his youth, Barry moved to St. Johns, where he was a standout athlete at St. Johns High School and graduated from there in May 1954. During this time, Barry met and married his eternal companion Marry Ellen Heap on June 29,1954, in the Mesa Arizona Temple for time and eternity.
Following their marriage, Barry was drafted and served honorably in the United States Army from August 1954 to July 1956, where he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War.
Barry held numerous jobs during his lifetime. One of the most memorable as a motors officer with the Phoenix Police Department, where he fulfilled his love of motorcycles, until a near-fatal crash ended his law enforcement career in 1960. He then earned a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University in industrial arts and began a lifelong career of teaching and coaching. He was an exceptional teacher who was stern but fair and was loved by his students. Barry will always be remembered for his practical jokes, quick wit and perfect hair, which was “not to be touched.”
Barry is survived by his eternal companion of 59-1/2 years, Marry Ellen Webb of Mesa; sisters: Christine (Robert) Holland of Mesa, Valarie (Buck, deceased) Tinney of Mesa, Laurel (Crawford) Waite of St. Johns; children: Danna (Ronnie) Finch of Eagar, Leisha (Lenn) Brown of Mesa, Natalie (Scott) Taylor of Cottonwood, Tray (Melissa) Webb of Eagar, 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Klaire LeMon Webb and Yeteive B. Haws Webb.
