Matthew John Fort, 47, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, in Prescott Valley, Ariz., leaving behind many who loved him and knew his kind heart. He was born on Dec. 31, 1966, in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Matthew enjoyed cooking, mastering his charcoal grill and spending time with his wife and family, not to mention any spirited and fiery conversation about politics. Matt loved golf and spent many afternoons on the links in Prescott and around Arizona with his favorite golfing buddy, his brother Simon.
Matt worked at Sync Aero (formerly Fortner Aerospace) as Purchasing Agent for the past eight years, and had made many friends through that job. He is a graduate of Prescott High School Class of 1985.
Matthew will be hugely missed by those who were such a big a part of his life and heart. He is survived by his wife Paula of 18 years; his daughter Melissa Fort; his stepdaughter Jessica Harris; his stepdaughter Elizabeth Harris; his granddaughter Jasmine Duran; his mother Anne Barnett; his sister Rachel Fort; his brother and best friend Simon Fort (Tara); his Uncle John Barnett; his brothers-in-law; and members of the Hayes family; and the many extended family and friends who called Matt a brother over the years.
Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Raymond J. Fort and his grandmother Elva Joyce Barnett.
The family wishes to let those who have shown their support and love during this difficult time know that Matthew would be very appreciative of their kindness. The family also wishes to send a special thanks to those who worked with Matt at SyncAero for their special help, support and offerings to family over the past week.
A private family service officiated by Matthew's good friend Randy Hartt will take place on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014. Friends are invited after the service to a casual potluck celebration for Matt from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mountain Club Clubhouse in Prescott, 910 Clubhouse Drive, off White Spar Road.
Guests are encouraged to bring a dish to share. Beverages will be provided. In lieu of flowers, donations will be collected on Saturday to be given to an organization in accordance with Matt's wishes.
The family welcomes any photos that can be shared and brought on Saturday. A round of golf in honor of Matthew will be planned in the next few weeks. We know Matt would have loved that.
